Number of Pieces
Stainless steel flatware sets have many different pieces of service. While some have 20 or less, others have 6or more pieces. The number of pieces mainly depends on the number of people you would like to use the set. If you have a small family, then buying a flatware set with fewer pieces may be the best option. But, if you want a flatware set for family gatherings or occasions, then a set with many pieces is the product to consider.
Although this sounds the same as the number of pieces, they are totally different. Serving pieces include serving spoons, meat forks, butter knives, steak knives, and pierced spoons. Of course, no one wants their appetite delayed in the name of waiting for a serving piece. So, choose a flatware set based on the number of people you would like to use it.
Ergonomic feel and Aesthetic looks
Do not overlook this when choosing a stainless steel flatware set. Some sets are so heavy that you won’t be able to hold them for long; hence, only consider those that look comfortable to hold. Also, you should not forget the aesthetic looks, given that these sets should be enhancing the visual appeal of your kitchen or dining room.

Like 47th Street on Central Avenue—no glitz, no glamour, just the merchandise please. With high-quality jewelry at discount prices, who cares about ambience? The store does a huge business in both diamonds and watches, mostly by word of mouth. “I have customers who come all the way from Texas to see me,” says Toby Weinstock. “They know they can trust me.”

Newcomer Baby Bee’s carries a cute and whimsical selection of baby gifts and clothing, mostly for babies through size 4T (the shop does carry a small selection of clothing for boys and girls up to size 14). We love the clothes by Oink, Le Top and the oh-so-soft 100-percent cotton that “feels-like-cashmere” line from Zutano in brightly colored plaids, polka dots

Griddles and Bars
A solid metal griddle plate is useful for foods that could fall through the grill like eggs or small chunks of meat
Barbecues with ‘flavorizer’ bars give a rich, smoky taste to your food, particularly when hot juices and fats drip between the grills.
Lids and Hoods
Lids on kettle barbecues serve as roasting hoods and also act as windbreakers
Closed lids help in trapping heat and smoke to cook food more evenly
Standard or optional hoods are great for roasting meat joints or a whole chicken
Hoods with integrated thermometers help you keep an eye on the temperature of food items being cooked
A warming rack is particularly essential if you are grilling different types of meats or food items. Since every item takes a different amount of time to cook, a warming rack sits above the main grill and acts like a smaller second grill. While the slow cooking items catch up, you can place cooked food on the warming rack to keep it hot without burning it or letting it turn cold.
The temperature indicator is another essential device that is fitted to the hood of the barbecue. It is useful for checking cooking temperatures while the lid is closed. This indicator also helps in pre-heating the barbecue by telling you when it has reached its ideal cooking temperature. Some temperature indicators are removable and come with a probe that can be pierced into food items to ensure that food is cooked thoroughly.
Firing up the bbq
The barbecue should be fired up at least 30 minutes before you start grilling
Pile up charcoal pieces in a pyramid structure under the grill and add lighter fluid to ignite them quickly
Look out for a grey ash coating and glowing red color, this indicates the charcoal is ready for cooking
Spread the charcoal around the base so it cooks your food evenly
For charcoal barbecues
Once the charcoal has cooled down, remove the grill and scrub off residue with a good barbecue brush.
Different materials require different brushes. The most common type is a wire brush
Following the scrubbing, wash it with a soapy scouring pad and leave it to dry.
Remove cold ashes from the grate and use the brush to clean it thoroughly.
Clean your barbecue regularly with an oven cleaner that is designed to get rid of accumulated grease and dirt.
Once you’re finished cleaning, thoroughly rinse once more and dry with a soft rag.
For gas barbecues
The rack, lid, drip tray and burners of a gas barbecue must always be cleaned after use
If your barbecue comes with flavorizer bars, simply turn on the gas and heat them. This makes it easy and quick to clean the bars
Before storing, wash the outside of your barbecue with soapy water, rinse and then dry thoroughly
Through a series of rolling operations, these blanks are graded or rolled to the correct thickness and shapes required by the crosswise from left to right, right to left, and lengthwise, then trimmed to outline. Each spoon, for instance, must be thick at the base of the handle to resist bending. This gives graded pieces the right balance and a good feel in the hand. Each piece is now in the form of a cleanly finished shape in the rough dimension of the utensil.
Forming the pattern
The next step is the forming of the pattern. Each pattern has its own for the front of the piece, and the other with the pattern for the back of the piece. These are carefully set in the hammers by die setters. The operator quickly places a piece in place under the drop hammer, which descends with a hydraulic pressure of 200 tons. (The bases of the drop hammers are bedded in 160 cubic yards of cement.) The metal is squeezed knife, spoon, and fork
Special steps are necessary for the creation of knives, spoons, forks, and holloware pieces. To make the hollow handle for the knife, after two strips of metal are formed to shape, they are then soldered together, buffed and polished until the seam is no longer visible. The blade and handle are
This illustrations shows how a fork looks after each operation is performed. Although the tines are pierced before the pattern is applied, the strip of metal that connects the tines together permanently joined by means of a powerful cement, which bonds with great strength and durability.
With the spoon, after the pattern has been embossed upon the front and back of the handle, the next step is the forming of the bowl. The forming is done again under the same powerful drop hammers from accurate steel dies. Each bowl requires two hammer blows. Surplus metal around the outline of the spoon is removed by clipping presses. A small burr still remains to be removed at a later operation.
The forming of fork tines is a similar process to that of the forming pattern is applied to the handle. After a fork is cut to outline, it is pierced and tined: the tines are pieced out, and the small piece of metal that holds the tip of the tines together is removed in another operation after the pattern has been applied.
Wok and Wok Lid
You’ll also need a handy wok lid for steaming, boiling, and bringing up the temperature for things that need a bit of a longer cooking time. When in doubt, whip out your wok!
Ok, so don’t be tempted to get a non-stick model. At the temperatures required for Chinese cooking, these are of questionable safety. Don’t start a fire, but don’t be afraid to heat that thing up, either! The wok is the heart of any Chinese kitchen. Just make sure you find a good one.
On the left is a picture of a wok similar to the one we have in our NJ kitchen, which you can see in a couple of our recipes, like this fried rice. On the right is a Wok Ring
These strainers are essential during deep frying to remove fine food bits and particles which may burn and spoil your oil. They also help decant the oil after frying for reuse. Rice Cooker
Without a doubt, this will save you the most headaches in the kitchen. Rice cookers these days come in a variety of styles and price points. Some have tons of different settings (for cooking different kinds of rice, porridges, and the like), while others just have an on and off button. Whatever your preference is, one of these babies will make sure you have perfect rice waiting for you every time. Our collective experiences says, save your money and pass on the multi-purpose units and go with a single purpose rice cooker.
Metal Steam Rack
A lot of people just think of stir fries when they think of Chinese food, but many dishes involve steaming as well (e.g. steamed fish, buns, shumai, etc., etc.). A metal steaming rack can go in the bottom of a deep pot or in your wok to hold up a heatproof dish full of delicious steamables.
6-Quart 3-Tier Chinese Steamer Stainless Steel Folding Hot Dish Tongs
Did you ever wonder how you were going to lift a hot plate from your steamer in tight quarters or burning yourself while doing it? This tool makes things a whole lot easier for smaller sized plates and dishes and we use tools like this one often in our kitchen.
Rimobul Asian Kitchen Stainless Steel Folding Hot Dish Plate Bowl Clip Plate Retriever Tongs
Another plate lifter that really works is this interesting looking gadget pictured below. We think it is better than the plier-like tongs that require a strong hand and grip strength to use. Check this one out if you do user a steamer often!
For those of you who have used a sharpening steel before, we highly recommend this Wusthof model. It has a wider shape instead of the more common round version. This tool is definitely a luxury, but it is worth the money if you are a fanatic like my dad. In my opinion, it’s much easier to use than the round version and is a godsend when you just need a little more edge while you’re working on the cutting board.
We use multiple colanders in our kitchen and on a busy day we use them all! We have a variety of them that are fine mesh, copper plated, decorative plastic and stainless steel but our colander of choice is stainless steel because it is durable and easy to clean.
We have learned over the years that electrics are really worth using for Chinese cooking and we love the Cuisinart processor and have been using one for years. Honestly, the only reason for not taking this out for use is the consequence of cleaning it up so sometimes we just use the traditional box grater or even the microplane! Mandoline Slicer
Mandoline slicers are great for slicing large quantities of vegetables or even if you just want thin or julienne slices. They are easy to use and worth the effort although you must be careful when using these sharp tools! Judy uses one often, especially when cooking Sichuan Stir-Fried Potatoes.
If you are a novice cook or just trying to perfect your knife skills, these gloves may be just what you need in the kitchen to build your confidence. Even professional chefs use them in high stress environments when risks of cutting yourself are high! Thermometer for Deep Frying

Hong Kong Egg Tart Tins
These aluminum tart tins are just awesome for making Hong Kong egg tarts. We used to save up our tins, wash them and reuse them for baking which is a good frugal practice but purchasing a batch of these for making Hong Kong Egg Tarts or any other mini tart recipe is truly worth the money!

KitchenAid Stand Mixer
This Kitchen Aid Stand mixer is an essential tool that you must save up for if you are a serous cook, baker, foodie, and if you want to make our milk bread and the best chocolate cake recipe you have ever had! We own an older model for over 20 years now and it is still going so not much else to say other than we highly recommend it. There are lots of models out there and you may be tempted to go with a cheaper model but we are really happy that we went with the professional series stand mixer that has the arm to lower and raise the bowl. It is totally worth the cabinet space needed to store it or you can buy one of the twenty-four colors that it comes in and leave it out on your counter for all to marvel at!
Cast Iron Cookware
Here are some basic tips for caring for your cast iron cookware, which is similar to caring for a carbon steel wok:
Okay, so there are a lot of different brands, models, and sizes out there. For us, we have three main ones that we like using:
Grill brushes are an effective tool for removing grease and char to provide a safe, clean cooking surface. The firm bristles are designed to get into every nook and cranny of your grill’s grate to remove any char or baked on grease and some grill brushes feature a small scraper on the head of the brush to help remove stubborn debris. A clean cooking surface is the best way to avoid cross contamination. allow you to easily coat food with liquid marinades while providing a safe distance from the flame. Typically, basting brushes are either made of stainless steel, skewers are fun accessories to have when making kabobs or roasting marshmallows. We suggest strictly using the wood skewers for marshmallow roasting because stainless steel is a conductivity for heat. *Tip: When using the wooden skewers on the grill, soak them in warm water for a minimum of 20 minutes before threading to keep the skewers from burning. If skewers are something that you use often, you can save time by soaking a large batch for an hour, drain, then freeze them in a plastic bag. When you are ready to use them, just take them straight from the freezer and thread them with your desired ingredients.
Grill Tool Sets
Grill tool sets are ideal for those who are just starting out and want to sample different tools before investing in the right ones. Available in various sizes and materials, grill tool sets are also great to give as gifts or to use on-the-go when grilling at your friends or family’s home.
