Arabica or Robusta

While there are more than 100 species of coffee, two of the most popular are Arabica and Robusta. They have unique flavors and characteristics, which is basically a result of being grown in two different types of environments, such as in terms of elevation and climate. Between the two, Arabica is the better choice, especially because it has a richer flavor. Arabica is naturally mild and aromatic. They are grown in mountains that are more than 600 meters in elevation, making cultivation quite difficult. It has a higher sugar content, which makes it slightly sweeter but still with caffeine kick. Robusta, on the other hand, is for people who prefer bitter coffee. It has a burnt taste, which may not satisfy everyone. Robusta is typically cheaper, which can be because of the fact that its cultivation is a lot easier. It has a higher yield and it is also not as sensitive to pests.

Below is a short video that will show the differences between Arabica and Robusta coffee:

Coffee Growing Region

To determine the flavor profile and overall quality of the grocery store coffee, you also need to look at where the coffee has been grown. In most cases, this will be indicated in the packaging. The following are some of the best regions in the world for growing coffee:

Brazil: This is the largest producer of coffee in the world. Some people believe that the emphasis on quantity has already compromised quality of their coffee. The finer ones tend to have a medium body and low acidity.

Colombia: This country is known for having high standard of excellence in their coffee. With a moist climate and high altitude, Colombian coffee is mild and well-balanced.

Indonesia: This is a country that is popular for their Robusta coffee. To be specific, Sulawesi, Java, and Sumatra are some of the places where coffee is grown in the country.

Ethiopia: Most of the coffees from Ethiopia are wet-processed. From the label, it is often described as full-flavored.

Kenya: This is another region in East Africa that is known for their notable coffee. Coffee from this country is fruity and sharp with a rich fragrance.

Costa Rica: This is the only country that makes wet-processed Arabica coffee. With careful attention to the production, you can expect fine coffee from Costa Rica.

Nestle Coffee-Mate Coffee Creamer

Among others, one thing that we like the most about it is that it comes with a reasonable price. If you are looking for cheap creamer, this should be on the top of the list. It is not a coffee, but we have included it in our list since it perfectly complements the flavor of your caffeine fix.

Each carton contains 180 packs of creamer, which is why the price is indeed reasonable. The creamers are dairy-free, making it perfect for people who have lactose intolerance. Despite having no dairy, you can expect rich flavor.

The creamer has a shelf life of nine months. The best thing is that there is no need for refrigeration. You can keep it in the kitchen cabinet without worrying that it will spoil. Nonetheless, make sure that you keep it in a place that is cool and dark, away from any direct heat.

Available in different flavors, we also loved the creamer because of the variety that they can offer. You can use them not only as an add-on for your coffee, but can also be incorporated in different desserts and dishes, depending on how creative you are with a recipe.

Green Mountain Coffee Breakfast Blend

If you have a Keurig coffeemaker, this is an excellent choice for the best grocery store coffee. It is in the form of K-cups, which means that making your coffee will be quick and convenient. You can expect consistent and great flavor all the time.

The flavor of the coffee is attributed to the use of 100% Arabica coffee. It was grown at a high altitude, which is the reason why it has a robust flavor. There are also no artificial ingredients that are used for the best taste.

Too add, it is also worth noting that the coffee is made using beans from Central America and Indonesia. This allows the body and depth to be easy to recognize. It is snappy and crisp with citrus notes.

In terms of roasting levels, this coffee is a light roast. Under this roast, the coffee is able to retain much of its original properties. It has not undergone too much processing, and hence, caffeine is high. This is perfect for those who like their coffee strong.

Peet’s Coffee K-cup Pack House Blend

This perennial favorite has captivated the attention of many discerning coffee drinkers from around the world. It is made by a craft coffee company that has been around for more than five decades. It is made using only the best beans that have been sourced from the best regions around the world.

One thing that makes it even exceptional is the fact that they have been through what is known as The Peet’s Roast. The company has nine roasters and a combined tenure of 1years. The coffee is roasted by artisans and in small batches for the best flavor.

Freshness is another good reason to choose this grocery store coffee above other products. The company has an obsession with freshness and this is a good thing for their consumers. They have a roast to order procedure, making sure that the beans will not easily go stale.

With this coffee, you can expect bright and balanced flavor. Nonetheless, because it is a dark roast, light coffee drinkers can possibly find it to be too bitter.

Artificial flavors

The product which perfectly suits Paleo demands in our case is the Veda – Paleo Coffee Creamer.

This product is offering a mouthful and tasteful organic coffee cream that thanks to the coconut milk adds protective barriers in the body – fights against infections.

Veda – Paleo Coffee Creamer is a handcrafted product, not related at all with industrial processes. There are no sugar or carbs associated with this composition. In case you will need to add sugars, you might consider the coconut sugar as a healthy option.

Milk Fat

Milk-fat-globules, which range from ~0.to micrometres, provide a membrane that gives protection to the milk fat from degradation or oxidation by enzymes that generate an off-flavour in milk.

Triglycerides are surrounded by a membrane that consists of phospholipids, protein and glycerides, and together they form the milk fat globule.

Milk Proteins

There are two classes of proteins that can be found in milk, the whey and casein proteins. These proteins are found on the top surface of milk fat globules after homogenization of milk. The caseins represent ~80 percent of total protein of the – 4% of the protein in cow milk.

The remaining percentage is composed of the whey proteins and small aggregates also referred to as individual proteins. However, extended aggregation of both whey and caseins proteins through heating using sterilisation (e.g., min at 11degrees Celsius) and UHT treatment (e.g., 140 degrees for sec) can cause extra viscosity.

But such effects can be limited through commercial pasteurisation (e.g., 7degrees for 1sec).

Scientifically, it is the milk proteins that merge with the coffee globules to give rise to the signature taste that characterises lattes and cappuccinos. And the flavour gets better if the coffee was hot in the first place.

Homogenised milk

Homogenization is used to reduce the level milk fat globules from forming a cream layer on top of milk which normally occurs during storage. Milk creaming occurs due to lower concentration of fat contained in the milk. Slowing the creaming process is achieved through reduction of milk fat globules sizes. Homogenisation involves passing of milk through a small valve at great pressure.

The process disrupts the fat globules. The science applied here is the creation of more space for the surface area of the flat globules, which makes it possible for proteins to get absorbed by the surface occupied by fat globules.

Now that you already know what is really in every cup of milk you pull out your fridge, it is only fair if we delved a little of the impact of adding dairy to your daily cuppa. (See what I did there?)

The Insider Pick

If you love cappuccinos, you need a great milk frother. After much research and testing, we found that the Stainless Steel HIC Milk Frother is the best you can buy.

It’s never been easier to make a perfect cup of coffee at home, but you need the right equipment to do it. If you’re a big fan of cappuccinos and lattes with splendid milk foam, you’re going to want a great milk frother in your collection of coffee-making products.

We’ve researched dozens of milk frothers and tested a few of them ourselves to find the best milk frothers you can buy.

There are many different kinds of milk frothers: manual, stationary electric, and handheld electric ones.

We first tried the handheld electric ones, because they were relatively cheap. However, the handheld electric ones rarely delivered on their promise of making milk creamy and frothy. Many of them also involve batteries, which can be expensive and annoying to constantly replace. As such, we haven’t included any of those frothers in this guide.

There are plenty of stationary electric milk frothers that you plug into your wall that will also produce excellent foamy milk, and we’ve put the best ones in this guide. However, the best electric milk frothers are significantly more expensive than handheld electronic ones and manual ones.

Although the Stainless Steel HIC Milk Creamer Frother is our top pick, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the Bodum Latteo Milk Frother, the Breville Milk Cafe Milk Frother, the Nespresso Aeroccino Electric Milk Frother, and the Epica Automatic Electric Milk Frother.

The Big 4

During my research, four names kept coming up again and again: Nutpods, So Delicious, Coconut Cloud, and Califia Farms. For my review, I will give you a brief snapshot of each product, talk about its taste and texture, and then let you know what the coffee brigade thinks about it. Hopefully, by the end of the piece, you’ll decide which one to try. Let’s get started!

On Taste

It has a smooth, rich taste with the right balance of almond and coconut without it overpowering your cup. Instead, the flavors cancel out one another so you can enjoy the coffee, not the creamer. One online reviewer noted that while the French Vanilla and Hazelnut flavored creamers are unsweetened, they still delivered a light, sweet flavor.

On Texture

Many online reviewers raved about how creamy their Nutpod experience was versus using other vegan or milk alternatives. It gave them the full-bodied coffee experience they wanted without the dairy or chemicals to get it.

Verdict: If you love a creamy cup of coffee with a hint of flavor and sweetness you can control, Nutpod creamer is for you.

Long answer

When a product’s name is a lie, you know there is trouble. Coffee Mate creamer is used to take away the bitterness of a cup of coffee. However, as with other “creamers”, there is no cream in Coffee Mate and many parts of the world require the product to be sold as “whitener.” The list of ingredients in Coffee Mate look more like a poison cocktail than something people should regularly ingest: phosphoric acid, corn syrup solids, mono- and diglycerides, carrageenan, added sugar, and partially dehydrogenated vegetable oil.

Drinking Coffee Mate can lead to a host of negative effects from nausea, dizziness, and vomiting, to the more extreme cases of liver dysfunction and renal failure.

Many people choose Coffee Mate because of it being a “non-dairy creamer.” What people often don’t know is that Coffee Mate has trans fats and can contribute to increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other complications that come from added sugars, partially hydrogenated oils, and corn syrup. While putting Coffee Mate in your coffee most likely will not affect you in the short-term, the potential cumulative damage done to your system is devastating. It is certainly no stretch to say that regular consumption of Coffee Mate very may well shorten your lifespan.

Another point to make about Coffee Mate is that unlike milk, it contains no nutritional value. For people worried about the fat content in milk – pouring a bit in your coffee is not enough to cause any damage. For the lactose intolerant who turn to non-dairy creamers like Coffee Mate, you have to ask yourselves – is improved taste more important than your overall health? artificial flavors

Cow’s Milk

This can be considered the original mother goose of all milk. Although it is higher in fat and calories than other milk beverages, it is packed with essential nutrients like calcium, potassium and vitamin D. It also has natural sugar from the lactose and healthy omega-fatty acids. All of the vitamins and minerals make it beneficial for infants and the elderly.

Coconut Milk

Once Starbucks added it to their menu, coconut milk became very popular. Even so, it is the least nutritious of the milk alternatives. If you love the taste of coconut, it is a low calorie drink option, but it has very little protein and high saturated fat. This is a veganfriendly, lactose-free option.

Almond Milk

Growing up as a cow’s milk drinker, this is my favorite alternative because it is healthier but has a similar consistency and taste to skim milk. This a great option for health-conscious individuals because it is low in calories and contains no cholesterol or saturated fat. Although it is another option for lactose intolerant individuals, almond milk unfortunately has minimal protein. On the bright side, this is a great base for protein shakes and baking because of the low calorie count.
