Cumbersome glass charger

An excellent electric toothbrush that justifies its premium price thanks to the quality of its cleaning and the elegance of its design. At least part of the reason for that is that it’s frequently on offer at half its RRP; never pay full price for it!

Gets mucky too easily

Another very fine electric toothbrush that’s worth its high price – although obviously, NEVER pay RRP for it when you can usually get it for less than half that. The Oral-B Pro 7000 Black SmartSeries is not a sexy bit of design, but your mouth will still thank you for buying it.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Overall, we found the oscillating-format Oral-B toothbrushes to be louder and more sonically grating than the vibrating format of the Sonicare brushes we tested. Without a point of comparison, it’s possible our slight annoyance would go away as we got used to it.

The other major flaw of the Pro 1000 is that its head is a departure from the usual rotating/pulsating motion of most powered Oral-B brushes. The head it comes with has two moving parts: one that moves up and down vertically and a longer set of bristles at the top that flop back and forth. Compared with other toothbrushes, the motion was a little violent.

Like most of the toothbrush models we tested, the battery life indicator on the Pro 1000 is vague: It lets you know when the battery is full (a continuous green light for five seconds after you remove it from the charging base) and when it is “low” (a red flashing light after turning the brush off). Oral-B does not specify how long it takes to get the brush to a full charge, but you can charge it every day without significantly affecting the battery’s capacity as long as you deplete it fully once every six months.

Long-term test notes

The most significant thing about a powered toothbrush that might change over the course of its lifetime is the battery life; over the years, rechargeable batteries tend to lose capacity. In the case of a toothbrush, this might mean it becomes less powerful or doesn’t last as long while traveling.

Competition

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected: The fanciest brush of the Sonicare line not only has far more cleaning settings than you need (three total, each with multiple speeds), it can connect to an app on your phone via Bluetooth that’s meant to track whether you’re adequately brushing every part of your mouth. The app shows an illustration of a mouth that starts out tinged yellow, and it gets whiter as you brush your teeth over the course of two minutes. The areas of your mouth that you fail to brush well enough will stay yellow, in theory. In reality, the location tracking wasn’t accurate enough to give us much useful information about this. The app divides the mouth into six areas, and it could reliably tell if we were neglecting either the front or backs of teeth, but not if I was missing one specific tooth. The app also expects you to brush the areas of your mouth in a specific order, and if I moved the brush to a part of my mouth where the app wasn’t expecting it to be, it didn’t pick up on that. When a brush like this costs about as much as an uninsured office visit to a dentist, I’m going to stick to getting brushing advice from a professional.

Philips Sonicare Series: This model feels and works very similarly to the Series, with a glossy plastic handle and minimal gripping ridges. Now that our runner-up comes with a quadrant timer, this toothbrush has no features that we think are worth spending extra on.

Oral-B Healthy Clean ProWhite Precision 4000: The battery lasts about three days longer than that of the Pro 1000, and the base is a bit chunkier than our pick’s. The brush has four cleaning modes (programmed to a separate button) and includes a pressure sensor, though to activate it you have to really cram the brush into your teeth, making it ineffective. The additional cleaning modes are extraneous, so there’s no reason to pay for them.

Dazzlepro Advanced Sonic: The handle is a little large and unwieldy, a satiny plastic tapered toward the middle of the handle, and the charging base is hefty, but this brush does a reasonable approximation of the Sonicare brushes’ motion. The Dazzlepro brush has a separate “sensitive” cleaning mode. However, the company is lower-profile and the warranty lasts only one year (compared with Sonicare and Oral-B’s two years), so if you need support you may be left wanting.

Conair Opti-Clean: This was cheap for a rechargeable brush, but it did not survive a dunk in the water.

Wrapping it up

The affordable Oral-B Pro 1000 makes it easy to take good care of your teeth. You can pay more for additional features, but according to the experts, there’s no need to—this simple, entry-level brush cleans your teeth as well as any of the many more-expensive brushes.

Less Important Features of Electric Toothbrushes

Features that the review team feel are less important include an alarm that sounds when you’re brushing too hard (the alarm usually doesn’t go off until you’re using nearly-impossible force), an ultra-violet light sanitizer to clean the toothbrush between uses (UV effectiveness has never been proven), ergonomically-designed handles (you’re only using the brush for two minutes, how much difference can the handle make?) and extended run times (see our previous

The Insider Pick

If you want clean teeth and healthy gums without breaking your budget, you can’t go wrong with the highly effective Oral-B Pro 1000 electric toothbrush.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “You only need to brush and floss the teeth you want to keep.” While the words are undeniably tongue-in-cheek, there’s considerable truth to them. Proper oral care, which includes twice-daily brushing and once-daily flossing, is critical if you want to hang onto your choppers well into old age.

Expect to recharge the

Oral-B Pro 1000 about once per week. You’ll see a flashing red light when the battery is getting low. The recharging base is very small, so there’s no need to clear much counter space. : Not as fast or as powerful as some newer electric toothbrushes

You’ll get a

Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush, which uses sonic technology to remove plaque from your gums and teeth. The brush has two speeds, a two-minute timer, and soft bristles that clean your teeth very effectively without irritating your gums. The kit includes a standard brush head and a compact brush head for precision cleaning.

The water flosser’s reservoir holds 90+ seconds-worth of water, and you can add a bit of mouthwash if you’d like for extra breath freshening. The flosser’s tip delivers a thin, powerful stream of water that painlessly and effectively blasts away plaque and debris not just from between your teeth, but also from beneath your gum line where string floss won’t reach. You can set the water pressure to your liking, and choose between five different types of tip.

How we picked and tested

The full complement of brushes we tested. Photo: Casey Johnston

After sorting through dental care research, which is littered with (unusable) clinical studies sponsored by the companies that make the toothbrushes being tested, we’ve learned that all you really need out of an electric toothbrush is a two-minute timer to make sure you brush your teeth for the right amount of time. Manufacturers have blown up the high end with scientific-sounding “features” like cleaning modes and UV lights, but there’s nothing to prove these work, let alone that they are necessary. All an electric toothbrush can really offer is automation of the brushing process by adding a timer and easing some of the physical labor, according to the professors and dentist we spoke to.

Both Oral-B and Sonicare make extensive lines of brushes and don’t exactly go to pains to make it clear what the difference is between all of them. See our full guide for a breakdown of differentiating features.

Brushing Modes

Daily Clean is the standard mode for everyday tooth care. It is suggested that you use this mode the majority of the time, and brush for about two minutes.

Sensitive mode is recommended for anyone that has sensitive teeth or gums. When using this mode, brush for around two minutes, like you would normally.

Massage should usually be used in the case of highly sensitive gums.

Polish is a more intense brushing mode designed to help whiten your teeth. It is recommended that you use the Pro Bright toothbrush head for this, but any will work.

Deep Clean is the option you choose when you need to thoroughly clean your teeth. It is suggested that you brush for three minutes in this mode for the best results.

Oral-B 6000

The Oral-B 6000 electric toothbrush is currently one of the higher-end models available. It features the ability to connect to the Oral-B brushing app. This lets you keep track of how much and how well you brush your teeth. Along with that, it has a battery level display that notifies you when it is low on battery. It features several important modes, giving you a variety of brushing options. The pressure sensor automatically detects when you are brushing too hard, and slows down oscillation in response.

Oral-B PRO 1000

The Oral-B PRO 1000 is similar to the Vitality in many ways but seems to improve upon the design greatly. The brush head has built-in pressure sensors to detect if you are brushing too hard. The daily clean mode paired with the 2-minute timer helps provide you with exceptionally clean teeth.

Our impression

Philips is a large international company that manufactures electric toothbrushes among other household appliances. Its Sonicare HX5610/30 5600 is a rechargeable electric toothbrush that boasts millions of users so far.

Compared with the manual toothbrush, the Sonicare HX5610/30 removes two times more plaque. Its distinctive dynamic cleaning action will gently drive fluids between your teeth and gumline, ensuring that you achieve the freshest breath.

The product offers a superior clean, of course, mainly with its angled brush head neck that facilitates the bristles’ cleaning action.   The product is so far proven to enhance oral health and is continually recommended by dentists.

I bought my Sonicare HX5610/30 5600 because my dentist recommended it to me. And so far I could never stop smiling at people as my teeth are whiter and my breath is constantly fresh.

The fact that this powerful toothbrush is recommend by doctors shows that it is clinically safe and gentle. While most electric brushes lack a timer, this Sonicare Essence 5600 power brush offers you a Smartimer that limits brushing to two minutes only.

What is more, the product is designed with you in mind in the sense that you get an easy start program to acclimate you to the Sonicare electric toothbrushexperience. Above all you hold a soft grip handle that lets you have better handling experience. >>Best deal I found on the Philips Sonicare HX5610/30<<

Uses Sonic technology that propels the bristles along the gum line and deeper between your teeth to remove hidden plaque.

Wrap up

I have bought all the above electric toothbrushes just out of curiosity. It is my nature to want to test out products in order to write a genuine review article like this one.

All the four toothbrushes worked just fine for me and I feel like my teeth are professionally cleaned every morning.

However, if I were to pick one among the four I would not hesitate to choose my

Philips Sonicare HX5610/30 Essence 5600. It is my favorite electric toothbrush so far mainly because I am a person who travels so often.

When packing my belongings I find the Sonicare toothbrush more convenient because it has a white travel case.  I just have to place it inside the case and go with it anywhere without the fear of losing it.

What the Professionals Say

We consulted Dr. Steve McConnell, owner of the Marin Center for Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry in Novato, CA and Courtney Casper, a registered dental hygienist at the same practice.

We asked the pros which type of electric toothbrush they recommend: the oscillating type that mimics human brushing action (though much faster) or the sonic type that creates tiny, rapid vibrations.

Ease of Set Up

As each electric toothbrush arrived at the BestReviews lab, we checked packaging, instructions, and whether or not an initial charging period was required before we could use it.

We noted whether each toothbrush was oscillating or sonic.

Comfort and Features

How an electric toothbrush feels in your hand is highly subjective, but each manufacturer strives for the most ergonomic design possible. In this review, we tell you whether they succeeded or not.

We also look at battery recharging times and any “extras” that make a product stand out from the crowd.

How We Tested

Price factors into any buying decision. All of the electric toothbrushes on our elite list are stellar products. To help you determine which is best for you, we examine feedback from existing owners and evaluate each package as a whole.

Oral B Professional Care 2000

I liken this brush to a VW Golf. Value for money, reliable, not overly expensive and will last you for years without any hassles.

The Oral-B Professional Care 2000 is a brush that should be a no brainer to a person looking for their first electric toothbrush. It’s mid-range with a name that excels in personal care products and value for money is quite frankly immense.

This is a real no nonsense brush with cleaning modes “everyday & sensitive”. You get the same robust, well-made handset that you do with all the models in the range. The real difference between the 2000 series and those further down the range are in the cleaning modes, as just mentioned, and the standard Precision Clean brush head and  Floss Action brush head, which isn’t available with the 1000 series. The Floss Action head in my opinion works like magic between the teeth, it certainly gives deeper penetration than the standard Precision Clean head, but would hardly be worth the greater price tag on its own.

Oral B Pro 7000

With the Pro 7000 Smart Series, Braun is truly living up to their role as an innovator. There are gadgets and then there are uber gadgets; toothbrushes and then exceptional mouth care products. In both cases, the 7000 Smart Series falls under the latter category.

With the Oral B Pro 7000 you get a large range of features and functions at your disposal. Some would argue that there’s too much going on here for just a toothbrush. As the name suggests, Braun have introduced Bluetooth to further enhance the feature rich device. Bluetooth element allows you to track the results of your brushing daily, weekly and monthly. It also allows you to customise your brushing.

Pros of Manual Toothbrushes

With proper teeth cleaning techniques such as circular motions at the base of your teeth and top of your gums, you can certainly keep your teeth very clean with a manual toothbrush. Hey, we’ve been using these bad boys for over 100 years! It can be hard work keeping this up for to minutes, twice a day, but you’ll soon get into a good toothbrushing habit.

Manual toothbrushes are easy to travel with. Just carry it in a case to keep it nice and clean, as you don’t want to be brushing your teeth with a dirty brush!

You don’t need batteries or charging requirements. Just load up with toothpaste and start brushing!

Cons of Manual Toothbrushes

Manual Toothbrushing can be a laborious task. It’s hard work, especially if you’ve had a bad night’s sleep or you are extremely tired at night. Your concentration on the job in hand can be affected which results in your teeth not getting the proper clean it needs.

Manual toothbrushing is a guessing game when it comes to the time you spend brushing. You’re not going to get your phone and set a timer for minutes are you?

Some people can have a problem using a manual brush properly.

People who have arthritis in the hands, arms or shoulders, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other conditions that may cause problems with movement may have difficulty comfortably holding a manual toothbrush, especially for minutes twice a day.

User friendly

Electric toothbrushes are insanely easy to use. With a powered toothbrush, all the user needs to do is turn it on, put it in their mouth and place the toothbrush at a 45° angle. The rest is down to the toothbrush! It will do all the work for you. Easy!

Much better results.

It’s proven through a number of studies over the years that using an electric toothbrush to clean your teeth twice a day, everyday with do a much better job than manual brushing. Not only that but it means you do less of the work. It get’s rid of plaque better than manual brushing and prevents gingivitis and gum disease.

Cons Of Electric Toothbrushes

You have to keep your electric toothbrush charged up otherwise it’s useless to you. If it’s battery powered, you need to keep buying replacement batteries.

It’s no surprise to find out that electric toothbrushes cost significantly more than a manual toothbrush. But think of it this way. You will spend less money at the dentist due to brushing your teeth properly.

Not as robust.

Just like any electronic item, the force of gravity can be lethal. Dropping your toothbrush can result in it being broken for good. You have to be more careful whenever using an electric toothbrush.

Some more benefits of owning and using an electric toothbrush

Keeping plaque at bay and gum disease at a distance

By using an electric toothbrush twice a day for two minutes a time, will go great steps towards having great looking teeth and a healthy mouth.

Efficiency of brushing :  Electric toothbrushes are designed to reduce human error when brushing, as much as they can. Although manual toothbrushes can be just as efficient as electric toothbrushes, studies have come to light that more than 65% of  people who use manual brushes just don’t use them correctly. They either aren’t brushing their pearly whites with the correct technique, which could mean that they are missing a few areas of their mouth, which could become an issue down the line. With such a large number not brushing properly, there is a big chance that you are one of them.

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000

I have chosen a toothbrush, that allows me to have the maximally comfortable and nice time during the tooth brushing.

Some toothbrushes from the review are expensive. But I think that it makes more sense to overpay once than be bored every morning and evening. Because as a result, you stop teeth brushing before the timer goes off. Moreover, some models are really loud. Seriously. Some toothbrushes that I’ve tried were making a sound of a dentist drill.

Of course, what is written below is just my personal opinion, but I think, that these toothbrushes are good enough to be included in the top toothbrushes of 2017.

Electric toothbrush for sensitive teeth.

Our general champion, the Oral-B Pro 7000 professional care gives many wonderful functions as detailed below and it is included with our major recommendation!

The Sonic Diamond Clean, our second place model type, and also will make sure you get an excellent clean using a soft touch.

All attachments are equipped with blue bristles Indicator for help you to remember when you need do replacing (about monthes if you clean twice a day for minutes).

Six modes allow clean not only teeth and gum but all oral cavity. Most popular modes are standart, whitening, massage and delicate clean. Developers spared their attention to sensitive teeth.

Charging is long.

Electric toothbrush Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum has stylish design. Unique cleaning technology Sonicare, which produces foam from toothpaste, saliva and oxygen, not only allows you to brush your teeth in the most effective way possible, but also helps to clean interproximal spaces and the most inaccessible areas. Housing of the toothbrush is made of the high quality plastic, that doesn’t slide in the hand while brushing and prevents any possibility to damage gums and teeth.

The toothbrush is equipped with the battery indicator, which will inform you about the need to recharge the battery with the red light. The full battery charge allows you to brush your teeth for 2days straight on condition that it’s being used twice a day. Cleaning modes are also listed on the body of the toothbrush, and every of them is lit after you choose it.

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum came out in 201and was lider of this year. It has a number of advantages over the earlier models. The toothbrush became more functional thanks to the indicator of pressure on teeth. Vibrations will signalize you about the excessive pushing.

The toothbrush modes are defined on levels of intensity, so every mode has another levels of intensity that is regulated by the special button on the front of the brush. In order to provide even more comfort, there is an Easy-start function, which regulates intensity of the cleaning, gradually increasing it during the first two weeks.

It’s unusual after the regular toothbrush.

Three-zone cleaning technology: the Power Tip bristles clean inaccessible areas, stationary pulsating bristles carefully clean the main surface of the teeth, and the lengthy rotary pulsating bristle gets in the interproximal area. Bristles get deep into the gaps between the teeth, removing up to 100% more plaque when compared to an ordinary toothbrush without changeable cleaning technique.

The front part of a head is moving and has lengthy bristles, that allows to reach even the farthest teeth without the need to widely open the mouth. I think, that it’s very comfortable.

The head is designed for three months of use (on average), on condition that we will brush our teeth for minutes twice a day. This brush also has an indicator of wear. Here’s how discolored bristle looks after months of use.

Charger. After the brush, which worked on the batteries, this one seemed to me as the most comfortable toothbrush in the world. You don’t even need to think about batteries or accumulators, that are getting lost all the time. One charge is enough for me for a week of use.

It’s a bit unusual to grip, since the handle is a lot thicker;

Not a very good quality of a rubber layer on the front of the brush, on which the button is placed;

It takes a long time to charge it.

The handle immediately draws attention: it’s made from plastic and soft rubber. Materials don’t have any roughness or scratches. It feels weighty in hand (of course it does – after the use of a regular plastic toothbrush), but it’s not hard to hold. At least, during the two minutes, that takes to clean the teeth, the hand doesn’t get tired. The assembly quality is on top, everything fits together just perfectly. Of course, the handle is waterproofed.

The head is easily placed on a metal pin, leaving a small gap. It may scare at first: is it a defect? No way! This is made on purpose to provide some space for vibration.

In total, Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite creates a very nice impression of a high quality device. Also, it works just fine.

Sonic brush Sonicare HealthyWhite HX6731/0will surprise even those, who already had experience with an electric toothbrush and got used to its noise. The Philips device resembles the sound of a dental machine – but it’s much quieter. But forget about uneasy associations! The brushing procedure is absolutely painless.

Indeed, the first impression was right: it’s very comfortable to use the toothbrush, and the rubber handle doesn’t slide even in wet hands.

One cycle of cleaning lasts for minutes. This is exactly how long dentists recommend to do it. But there’s one thing: for the manual brush minutes is a required minimum. To carefully remove the tooth plaque, one should spend around 10-1seconds on each tooth. So, you’ll need at least minutes with a manual toothbrush. It’s long. Especially in the morning, when you’re late for work or studies and each minute is precious. Sonic toothbrush helps to save time.

During the brushing, every 30 seconds there will be a sound signal, which warns you that you should start to clean the next zone of the oral cavity. Begin with the outer surface of the upper teeth, then clean the inner surface and go to the next jaw. After the whole cycle the toothbrush will turn off automatically.

There’s one more moment. Many people have question. Can they use a sonic brush with braces or dental fillings? Philips Sonicare can be safely used to clean the repaired parts of teeth (fillings and crowns), implants, orthodontic constructions: braces, retainers and so on. But in this case service time of the head will decrease.

Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite indeed cleans well: teeth are smooth and shiny. Also, the whitening can be seen. The tooth enamel gains natural whiteness after a couple of uses. It’s looks not as good, as after a procedure from dentist, but still notably. Interdental spaces are being cleaned too: there’s almost no work left for irrigator and dental floss.

Non-slip shape

A reliable handle lets babies keep toothbrush in an upright position and apply toothpaste in a horizontal position.

Dynamic liquid flow Sonicare clears the interdental spaces

Unique dynamic technology carefully and effectively clears the interdental spaces and gum lines.

Rubberized top of the replaceable head for the safe brushing of the children’s teeth.

Rubberized cleaning head of the electric toothbrush is made to protect the growing teeth.

The main requirement was a presence of timer. Now my child knows for sure, for how long he should brush his teeth. Previously, he would make a couple of movements and state that he has finished. The kid likes stickers, and the toothbrush has a comfortable holder.

Additional functions

Pressure sensor warns about the excessive pressure of the bristle on the surface of teeth, which helps to prevent damaging of enamel or gums. This feature is useful for children and people with sensitive teeth, for whom the strong pressure on a tooth even for a short time can be painful.

The charge Indicator tells you, when you need to replace the batteries or recharge the accumulator. This addition is especially useful when traveling.

Expensive toothbrushes are equipped with a display, which is located either on the handle of the brush, or installed independently on a shelf, a sink or a wall. The display shows information about the tooth brushing time, the charge indicator and the wear of the head.

Choosing a toothbrush stiffness

Bristle stiffness depends on its fiber diameter – the bigger diameter means the harder stiffness.

A toothbrush stiffness is necessarily written on its box. It may be ultra soft (extra soft), soft, medium, hard and ultra hard (extra hard). The ultra soft bristle is recommended for children under and people with hypersensitive teeth. The soft bristle is recommended for children from to 1and people with bleeding, swelling or tender gums or the hard tooth tissue reduction. The medium bristle fits children above 1and adults.

Hard and ultra hard toothbrushes can only be used under a dentist recommendation. They can traumatize gum and cause the hard tooth tissue reduction. Their bristles aren’t flexible enough to penetrate into the interdental spaces and under the gums.

The American Dental Association (ADA) tests toothbrushes to ensure safety and effective cleaning. You can read ADA tips for choosing the right toothbrush.

Ways to sanitize a toothbrush

Antiseptic mouthwash: Dip the toothbrush in antiseptic mouthwash for about 1minutes. After 1minutes, remove the toothbrush from mouthwash, wash it with normal or hot water and let it dry. Do not put your toothbrush in a case without letting it dry. Antiseptic mouthwashes help to destroy bacteria and microbes and sanitize your toothbrush.

Microwave: Place your toothbrush in a microwave for about 1seconds. It is found that the radiation, emitted by microwaves, destroy bacteria and microbes on a toothbrush.

Dishwasher: According to tests, sanitizing toothbrush in a dishwasher provides the most effective results of removing bacteria, when compared to washing in the hot water or under the strong pressure.

Boiling: One more way to effectively sanitize a toothbrush is a traditional boiling in a container, full of water. Boil the brush of about 1minutes, and then let it dry. The only flaw of this method is that toothbrush bristle wears down quicker, than it normally would. Moreover, this method can’t be used to sanitize an electric toothbrush.

Ultraviolet sterilization lamp: You can also sterilize your toothbrush, using ultraviolet sanitizer. To use an UV toothbrush cleaner, you need to turn over the toothbrush and put it in it. The cover of the device is transparent, so its light tells you, if it’s working or not. Sterilization lasts for about minutes, and the device will automatically turn off afterwards.

Steam and dry heat sterilization: There are other electronic disinfecting devices, that sanitize toothbrushes with steam and dry heat.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2): You can sanitize your toothbrush by keeping it in a hydrogen peroxide solution. You need to renew it every day, so this is not a very comfortable method.

White vinegar: Pour some white vinegar in a clean container and place a flipped over toothbrush in it. This procedure helps to disinfect a toothbrush, but it isn’t 100% effective.

Sonic technology

The sonic technology uses a manual looking head which is more capable of removing plaque colonies because of the high vibrational speeds it is capable of achieving. If you have a bigger budget for an electric toothbrush, then a sonic brush should be your choice.

Timers

Quad timers have been installed in toothbrushes so that users may know for how much time they should brush their teeth. A teeth cleaning session usually takes around minutes (30 seconds for each quadrant in your mouth). This is why, the quad timer will buzz or beep after every 30 seconds letting the user know that it is time to change the position of the head. Toothbrushes with this feature have greatly improved the way people brush their teeth. In addition, it has also made cleaning the teeth much more interesting.

In-built quad timers

This mode helps users to clean each quadrant in their mouth by being guided by a beep or buzz sound that triggers after fixed intervals (usually 30 seconds). That ensures proper time management while cleaning the teeth. This is hard to monitor in a manual toothbrush.

A number of modes

You can clean, polish, scrub, massage etc. with an electric toothbrush skilfully.

Using these toothbrushes for such features are not the only reasons dentists would recommend these. Cleaning techniques used in these are also considered. Two main types of cleaning methods which can be found in electric toothbrushes are:

The above-mentioned brushes and the technologies they use are highly recommended by dentists from all over the world. Moreover, these two have greatly popularized the use of electric toothbrushes by common people. Despite it all, there is still confusion between the two types of toothbrushes and the technologies they work upon. While the sonic technology is more capable, yet it is capable of causing more damage to the teeth and gums when used incorrectly. This is why, dentists might suggest you to stick to the oscillating ones as they are easier to handle. This is because of the small head size which can be easily operated through tight spots in the mouth. Nonetheless, the two toothbrushes are efficient in providing full oral hygiene. The Colgate C600 ProClinical toothbrush

This is another expensive toothbrush just like the diamond clean. It features almost 30,000 brush strokes in a single minute.

The Colgate C600 polishes your teeth while removing plaque and surface stains. The Colgate team is well known for its toothpaste. However, the team recently coupled with the Omron team to create their range of three sonic toothbrushes. The Colgate ProClinical A1500 impressed us the most of the three models.

These toothbrushes work on the principle that your teeth should be brushed differently since the different parts of your teeth are unique. The Colgate ProClinical A1500 uses the same technology that is used on smart devices to change them from landscape to portrait or vice-versa, to know which part of the teeth you are brushing. The brush changes the pulsations/Speeds accordingly.

The Colgate ProClinical A1500 also has two separate timings that alert you whenever it is necessary to change quadrants and also alerts you whenever two minutes of brushing time are over. The brush has only one mode. However, it allows you to change the brushing action and speed of its head to suit your style.

This model has been creatively designed to provide you with a thorough tooth cleaning action on both the outer and inner teeth surfaces simultaneously. The brush has circular brushes on both its sides, these brushes rotate in an opposite fashion ensuring efficient tooth cleaning and complete plaque removal.

Waterpik WP-900 Water Flosser and Sonic Toothbrush.

TheWP-900 sonic toothbrush and water flosser is a 2-in-product. Any dentist would be happy if they would see this product in your bathroom. The Waterpik WP-900 water flosser comes with an innovative water flossing device and an electric toothbrush to help you achieve overall oral hygiene. The sonic part of the brush uses a fast bristle speed to remove plaque from especially the hard to reach places on the teeth. This toothbrush has only one mode. However, it remains an effective toothbrush that is hard on bacteria and stains and soft on your gums. The WP-900 water flosser and sonic toothbrush uses a steady water stream that it uses to clean between your teeth. This makes it more efficient than the traditional flossing. It has a force that assists it in improving your gum health in two weeks and also combating gingivitis. Laboratory tests have been conducted with the brush and results have indicated that it can remove up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas in just seconds. These impressive results make the brush an all round oral care brush.

Soft Bristles

To avoid such damage, dentists advise people to use soft-bristled electric toothbrushes. This makes it less likely for the brush to damage the gums and the enamel. Moreover, the size of the head of a toothbrush has to be appropriate enough to fit in the mouth without any difficulties while cleaning in tight corners.

Does Electric Toothbrush Damage your Teeth

The answer depends on the techniques you use to brush and the type of bristles in your toothbrush. Remember if you damage your gums the effect is irreversible, so it is crucial to try and brush correctly without harming your gum tissues.

Arm & Hammer Spinbrush Pro

One of the unique features of the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush Pro battery-powered toothbrush is the combination of rotary and side-to-side actions. This combination has been patented by Spinbrush and the rotary head oscillates, which means that it spins in one direction and then the other direction for the primary purpose of cleaning the teeth thoroughly, including between teeth. In addition to the rotary head, there are secondary bristles that move from side to side for the purpose of massaging the gums and getting rid of plaque. Because this battery-powered toothbrush provides around 3,700 strokes every minute, it is designed to address the common problem of people not brushing long enough.

Features

Some of the pricier electric toothbrushes on the market come loaded with features. While a more basic model offers just brushing capability, higher-end models have convenience and sanitation add-ons that make your life easier.

Price & Value

Special Features

Electric toothbrushes are not created equally, and some offer special features that will separate them from their peers. Specifically, some of the features available include: – Cordless vs corded. Electric toothbrushes are available in either cordless or corded models, with cordless generally being more expensive. Cordless models may be rechargeable or operate on batteries, and again, this will usually factor into the price. Battery-powered units tend to be bulkier, so cordless rechargeable units tend to be priced at a premium, although they tend to be far more comfortable and easier to use. If choosing a rechargeable unit, take into consideration the amount of time the unit will hold the charge. – Varying modes. In reality, only one brushing mode is absolutely necessary. However, many units offer a variety of modes for deeper cleaning and tooth and gum massage. Whether you choose a single mode or multi-mode unit will depend on your personal preference. – Timer. A good electric toothbrush will house a timer to signal when to change brushing regions. This ensures that you do an even brushing job throughout your mouth, and should be considered a must-have feature. Similarly, an electric toothbrush should alert you when two minutes have elapsed, the dentist-recommended brushing time. – Pressure sensor. If you’re brushing too hard, some electric toothbrushes will let you know with a built-in pressure sensor. This will help train you to ensure you are using it properly and safely. – Carrying case. If you travel with your toothbrush, look for one that comes with a carrying case. Not only are uncovered toothbrushes a haven for germs, a proper case will ensure that the toothbrush isn’t inadvertently activated during transit.

Performance

Slim and lightweight, this unit is considered by many to be one of the most comfortable and easiest electric toothbrushes available. It features a “beginner” mode, helping those transitioning to electric toothbrushes for the first time by gently increasing the cleaning strength over a weeklong period. A single button controls all aspects of the device, making it extremely user-friendly. It’s powerful, too, offering the equivalent of 31,000 brush strokes per minute.

Less Pain

Drinking a lot of drinks like coffee, tea, grape juice and sodas as well as smoking can cause the teeth to stain and yellow. The extra power that an electric toothbrush provides can help remove these stains, especially when combined with tooth-whitening toothpaste.

When bacteria isn’t removed from teeth properly this can lead to bad breath. The extra cleaning that an electric toothbrush provides reduces the amount of bacteria or plaque that is on the teeth which means fewer problems with bad breath, especially when you brush your teeth 2-times a day.

Using an electric toothbrush regularly has been proven to lower plaque buildup and reduces the chances of gum disease over those who use manual toothbrushes. It’s the consistency and dedication to taking care of your oral hygiene that produces healthier teeth and gums long term.

Battery Powered Electric Toothbrushes –

This type of electric toothbrush requires double or triple A batteries and are easier to transport when going on trips, etc.  They are cheaper than rechargeable models, but don’t forget to factor in the cost of buying replacement batteries.

Sensitive –

For anyone who suffers from sensitive teeth, this mode is excellent and should be used in combination with a sensitive brush head. This is also the mode that is best for children to use.

This mode is used to massage the gum line which is very good for those who are dealing with bleeding gums or gum disease

Electric Toothbrush Features

There are many extra features that electric toothbrushes can come with.  Some of the higher end models may have all of them, but some just have a few.  It depends whether you want a higher end model or are looking for a more economical variety.  Below are features that are commonly offered by different electric toothbrush manufacturers.

Less Noisy –

Electric toothbrushes can be surprisingly noisy.  Many of the models on the market today take that into consideration and have come up with noise reduction styles that don’t echo off the bathroom walls while you’re using it for two minutes. This is a popular and much wanted feature especially since those who get up early or who stay up later at night won’t be disturbing other members of the house.

Pressure Sensor –

There are some electric toothbrushes that automatically turn off if you start pressing too hard on the teeth and gums while you are using it. This is to protect the sensitive membranes of the mouth and is a good feature to have for younger kids and teens who may not realize that you don’t have to press hard to get the benefits of the electric toothbrush since it does the work for you.

Brush Timer – another great feature if kids are using an electric toothbrush is a timer that automatically shits the toothbrush off at the two minute mark.  Other models have timers that pulse or beep every 30 seconds so the user knows to change the area of the mouth they are working on. These can be great for those who want those reminders.

Charger Stand –

Some models may have what amounts to a recharging dock or stand that can be put in the bathroom on the counter. In some models it may be a part of the case and in others it might be a standalone charger.  Battery operated models will not typically have charging stands but they still may come with travel cases.

Warranties –

You may not think that warranties are important for a product as small as an electric toothbrush, but most manufacturers offer them for at least one year and they are good to have. Since they are electric, things can go wrong and it’s nice to have your investment protected.  Most warranties will be about year but some companies may offer longer ones.

The Base –

Your electric toothbrush is an electrical appliance. You should never submerge the entire product in water at any time.  The way you can effectively clean it is to take a cloth and dip it into the bleach solution, wipe all over the handle thoroughly, next take a cotton swab and dip that into the bleach solution.  This will then be used to clean out the area where the toothbrush head attaches to the handle.

Don’t store your electric toothbrush in with a bunch of others.

You will need to make sure each toothbrush is kept separate in a proper case or that it has a head cover.  This is extremely important to prevent the spreading of germs and bacteria from one brush to another.

Rechargeable

As you may have noticed, the top toothbrushes in this list are all from either Philips Sonicare or Braun Oral B. These are the leading brands of electric toothbrushes and for good reason.  For a quick comparison, you can check out the following post: Sonicare vs Oral B

The Philips Sonicare line of toothbrushes uses ultrasonic vibrations to simulate up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute. Oral B toothbrushes use oscillating action to contour to the shapes of your tooth and can mimic 40,000 brush strokes per minute.

Despite the increased brush strokes provided by Oral B, there are reasons to choose Sonicare. Sonicare toothbrushes tend to have long lasting batteries and more features and settings.

Along with Sonicare and Oral B, there are other quality brands to consider. Waterpik and Pursonic also produce highly-recommended, affordable electric toothbrushes. The Wellness HP-STX is a unique entry but still provides a quality cleaning.

If you want to find the best power toothbrush, these are your best option.

Waterpik Complete Care

The Waterpik Complete Care offers something that you will not get with an Oral B or Sonicare toothbrush. Unlike the other toothbrushes, this is a complete dental care kit. Not only do you get a powerful sonic toothbrush, you get a water flosser. · Includes a water flosser and sonic toothbrush · Includes hard travel case with storage compartments · Multiple flossing attachments · water pressure settings

Waterpik is known for their water flossers. These devices can deliver water pressure in order to deep clean between your teeth and gum line. You get the benefits of flossing, without having to apply unnecessary pressure to your gums. You can choose between different water pressure settings to match your comfort level.

You also get a quality sonic toothbrush. The provided toothbrush works similar to a Sonicare toothbrush. The sonic vibrations help break up food debris and plaque.

The fact that you get a water flosser and a sonic toothbrush makes the Waterpik Complete Care set a great buy. You can clean around braces, implants, and crowns with the water flosser and keep your teeth clean with the sonic toothbrush.

If you are looking for a complete dental hygiene kit, the Waterpik Complete Care has you covered.

Wellness HP-STX

The Wellness HP-STX sonic toothbrush with docking station is another option for budget-minded shoppers. The sonic technology delivers 34,000 brush strokes per minutes and includes three different cleaning modes. · Docking station for rechargeable battery · Auto shut-off after two minutes of brushing · Auto alert every 30-seconds · Three cleaning modes

The powerful sonic toothbrush offers many of the same features as the Sonicare toothbrushes but at a lower price point. The reason for this is quality and durability. When you purchase Sonicare, you get a toothbrush that should last for several years with proper use.

The Wellness HP-STX is a decent toothbrush. Though, it may not hold up as well as a Braun Oral B or a Philips Sonicare. But, if you want to save money, the Wellness HP-STX deserves your consideration.

Pursonic S520 Sonic · travel caps · tongue cleaners · floss holders

The floss holders can be strung with floss. You can then comfortably floss your teeth without the typical hassle of reaching far back into your mouth. You also get tongue cleaners. Your tongue is a prime spot for bacteria, yet rarely mentioned.

Along with these great features, the Pursonic S520 has a 2-minute timer and a 30-second vibration alert. As usual, the 30-second alert lets you know when to switch quadrants and the 2-minutes lets you know when you can stop brushing.

Technique of Brushing

The bristles in electric toothbrushes may be placed in different angles to enable different brushing techniques. Electric toothbrushes have different techniques like side-to-side brushing, circular brushing; counter oscillation brushing, ultra-sonic brushing etc. Depending on what technology and technique a brush uses, the pricing might vary. For starters, you might go with a tradition side to side brushing technique and upgrade to a different one later.   How To Change Wireless Router Settings

Duration of Brushing

Brushing teeth has a standard time, set by British Dental Association. According to them, at least two minutes should be spent every night for tooth brush. Most people only spend 40 seconds as per some survey result, and run into tooth problems earlier than teeth are supposed to decay. Make sure the electric brush you are planning to buy can provide sufficient backup for a good number of 2-minute brushing sessions.

Electric Brush for Children

Brushing using typical brushes is a good option for children, but if they prefer then you might buy them an electrical brush. However, make sure you are buying them a brush that’s mean for children and not adults. Adult brushes might have higher torque and they would be bigger in size, whereas the children brushes are smaller in size and they also go little softer on the teeth of your toddlers.

Personal choice

Choosing a toothbrush is a matter of personal preference – some people feel more comfortable with a manual toothbrush, others with an electric one.

The Cochrane Collaboration’s report didn’t cover factors such as how light, easy to hold or manoeuvrable the brushes were, and how ‘clean’ the person’s teeth felt afterwards.

View Product

In addition, the rechargeable battery can hold a fairly long charge and can be used for up to days on a single charge. For the newbie it is difficult to consider the benefits of electric toothbrush over the regular toothbrush but you should use it know the worth of it. If you indeed want all the following points to have in your daily routine, check it out:

Stain removal keeping your teeth healthy.

Stains in one’s teeth are very hassle.Electric tooth brush accelerates very fast emitting high power thus rubbing those stains which discolor teeth. As far as a manual toothbrush can be used, it cannot reach those inner parts which plaque can build. The rotating bristle in electric toothbrush can reach all the sides of the teeth removing those stains.

Five Factor To Choose Electric Toothbrushes

Power type.  An electric toothbrush can either be rechargeable or disposable battery powered. Rechargeable toothbrushes have in their make a battery pack which is connected to the mains. They have a higher initial price compared to the second type. They are highly convenient and cheaper in the long run as you can charge them and use them for some time before another recharge is required Disposable batteries need to be replaced when they are used up. They are initially cheaper and more portable as they need no recharging. However, the best is a rechargeable toothbrush that has a long battery life and an indicator light so you can tell when recharging is required.

This will largely depend on your age as a user and the purpose for which you will employ the toothbrush. For daily purposes, you can go for a wider, weightier build for example, while sticking to lighter and slimmer builds for traveling. Some adults prefer to use kid sized brushes as they are easier to reach the back teeth with.

Brush head selection.

The key thing is to pick a brush that meets your specific needs. There are many types such as for flossing, whitening, braces and even sensitive teeth. Whatever type is chosen, ensure that you replace the head every two to three months.

Effectiveness

This will largely depend on the power levels of the specific toothbrush as well as the brush stroke speed. Dental tests have revealed that sonic toothbrushes are more effective at cleaning the teeth than the ordinary power ones because of the higher number of brush strokes. You should go for the electric toothbrush that has selectable brushing modes and power levels over those with regular on/off modes. If this is your first electric toothbrush, start with lower vibration rates first as you grow used to the vibrations.

Charging.

One of its main setbacks is that it can only be used in places with electric supply. This means that an individual with an electric toothbrush will not be able to use it in remote places thus compromising his/her oral hygiene routine.

The cost of purchasing an electric toothbrush is much higher as compared to a manual toothbrush. Its maintenance also incurs a lot of costs. This is due to the regular replacement of the disposable batteries and the brush head.

How to choose kids electric toothbrush

Kids have more sensitive and delicate mouths, gums and teeth and therefore need specific designs that will provide the required care. They also have to be trained on correct brushing and might need to be helped along in the learning process. The choice of their electric toothbrush should thus revolve around the following important features.

Brushing Timers

For kids this is a very important feature especially in training them on the required brushing time. From an early age, the child gets to stick to a set schedule and timing for teeth brushing. This is important even as they grow up and will form part of the very essential tooth brushing routine.

Bristles

They should always be soft and rounded on the tips to prevent damage to kids’delicate gums lines and enamels. Electric toothbrushes are in themselves great for kids because the oscillatory and rotary movements do the work instead of high pressure. Soft and round bristles allow for safety and comfort as the child brushes teeth.

Child designs

Kid¡¯s toothbrushes are not made with the same colors as most adult ones but have more luminous colored. Handles usually have emblazoned designs that are appealing to children to encourage brushing for longer such as cartoons. They are made so as to excite the kids about more regular brushing.

Health HP-STX Ultra High Powered

One more rechargeable toothbrush that operates with sonic technology is this Health HP-STX Ultra Powered brush. The good thing about this toothbrush is that it has some of the similar features to high-end sonic toothbrushes but is much more affordable. Its functionality and high quality built design to add to its benefits.

With this brush, you can also have a more personalized brushing as it offers several different brushing modes. It has modes: Power/Clean (standard brushing), Soft/Gentle (for soft brushing of sensitive teeth) and the Massage mode (for soothing and relaxing gums).

The sonic wave technology in this toothbrush works with 30,000 strokes per minute. With this ultra power, it removes plaque, leaving the teeth fresh and clean.

It features the standard timers. One of them alerts you every 30 seconds to move on your brushing to the next quadrant and the second timer after minutes shuts off the operation of the toothbrush.

Battery power

When you purchase an electric toothbrush, it is important to find out how long the battery is likely to last. Electric toothbrushes have a built-in rechargeable battery and this can be charged using a toothbrush stand style charger. Longer life rechargeable batteries can last for around weeks when you brush your teeth twice a day for minutes at a time. Some of the batteries with less charging power, however, can last for just 1brushes.

If you want to use your electric toothbrush whilst traveling or if you don’t want to charge your toothbrush too often, then you should consider purchasing a toothbrush that comes with a longer life battery.

Pressure Sensor

Cleaning your teeth too hard can cause some harm to your teeth and gums. If you have problems with your gardens or if you are aware that you apply too much pressure at times, you should choose an electric toothbrush that comes with a pressure sensor. This will stop the toothbrush from operating if you are pushing too hard on your teeth or it may indicate to you that you are applying to put pressure using a noise all light to signal.

Ergonomic handle

You can enjoy and more comfortable hold if you choose a toothbrush that has a soft grip handle. These toothbrushes have a rubber styled body so that you can keep a firm hold on it without it’s becoming uncomfortable. This is also important to minimize the vibrations that you feel in your hand from the motion of the electric toothbrush.

Rotating oscillating toothbrushes

One step up from the rotating electric toothbrush is the rotating oscillating toothbrush. These look similar to Electric rotating toothbrushes but instead of rotating in 360°, the brush head oscillates rotating in one direction and then the other. This allows you to clean each tooth individually and effectively.

Pulsating toothbrushes

Some electric toothbrushes offer pulsing action. This causes the toothbrush head to pulsate backward and forwards against the truth. This loosens the plaque that is on the surface of the tooth and adds another dimension to the toothbrushes cleaning capabilities.

Ultrasonic and sonic

Ultrasonic or sonic toothbrushes are the most expensive kinds of toothbrushes that are available. With these brushes rely on ultrahigh frequencies of movement that manifest themselves as noises when you place the brush into your mouth.

Although it is a strange sensation at first, once you have got used to the sensation, you will be able to enjoy very clean teeth. This is because the frequency of the toothbrush movement not only loosens the debride that collect on your teeth, but it also works to break down the plaque and bacteria so that your teeth and gums can be as clean as possible.

These kinds of toothbrushes not only clean the areas of the tooth and gum is that you can see, but it also is effective at breaking down plaque and other harmful bacteria that it located under your gum line.

Built-In Timers

Everybody should clean his or her teeth twice a day for two minutes a time. To ensure that you fulfill these guidelines, you should choose an electric toothbrush that comes with a built-in timer. The time I will ensure that you clean your teeth fall the correct amount of time, and usually, you will also get an indication as to when I quarter of the time is up. At each quarter signal, you should move onto the next quadrant of your mouth. This will ensure that you clean your whole mouth equally and that no teeth or areas of guns are missed.

Pressure Sensors

Applying too much pressure when you clean your teeth can cause more problems dam not cleaning your teeth. To ensure that you are not brushing your teeth too hard, you should purchase Electric toothbrush that has an integrated pressure sensor. This will cause the toothbrush to either cut out altogether or to give you a warning signal when you start to apply too much pressure to your teeth.

Sanitizer

Some toothbrushes come with an overnight UV sanitizer. This is a feature that is only offered on a handful of toothbrushes, but the main principle is that the toothbrush should be kept sanitized using their UV sanitizer. Although this sounds like it is a good idea as it uses advanced technology, there isn’t really much to gain from having the sanitizer. As long as you clean your toothbrush well under running water once you have finished using it, you will be able to keep your toothbrush head clean and hygienic ready for the next use. Having said that, there is no harm in purchasing a toothbrush head that has a sanitized in unit with it.

Rotating-oscillating

If you choose a rotating-oscillating toothbrush, you will find that you will have chosen a product that has a well-designed body and attachments. The small and rounded brush head that comes with this kind of toothbrush oscillates as you clean your teeth. This means that the small rounded brush moves from side to side in a rotating motion. This allows the toothbrush to get all around the teeth and to brush away as much plaque as possible from the back, sides, and front of the teeth. These are usually the most affordable kind of electric toothbrush that you can choose.

A sonic toothbrush has a head attachment that features a medium-firm brush head. When you turn it on, the brush head vibrates at such a frequency that you will be able to hear it as you brush. The sound is not particularly unpleasant, but for those who do not like certain pitches of sound, this may not be the best choice. A sonic toothbrush can clean the teeth more quickly and effectively than a rotating-oscillating toothbrush can. Sonic toothbrushes provide a backward and forwards brushing motion to brush away the plaque. You can hear the toothbrush whilst you are using it and the sound is quite high-pitched but not unpleasant.

Ultrasonic

Similar to sonic toothbrushes, ultrasonic toothbrushes operate at a high frequency. Unlike sonic toothbrushes, however, an ultrasonic toothbrush does not brush your teeth. Instead, the ultra high frequency that these toothbrushes operate at provides fast vibrations that break down the plaque and bacteria in your mouth. You will not usually hear the sound from this toothbrush as it uses ultrasonic frequencies, which is out of the hearing range of many people. These are usually far more expensive than any other toothbrush as the technology is so advanced.

Battery Powered vs. Rechargeable Electric Toothbrushes

Although at a glance, you may believe that battery powered and rechargeable toothbrushes are very similar to each other, there are a few noticeable differences.

A battery-powered toothbrush is usually powered by standard “AA” batteries, which are easy to replace when you need to. They have a basic on/off button, which is located on the handle of the toothbrush. The head of the battery-powered toothbrush is sometimes split and it will pulsate and provide vibrations so that plaque can be brushed away and broken down.

A rechargeable toothbrush comes with a charging unit where you will need to stand the toothbrush in order for it to recharge. Rather than featuring a basic on/off button, these toothbrushes come with different modes so that you can customize your brushing experience.

These toothbrushes can sometimes come with additional features such as sensors that detect if you’re applying too much pressure as you brush, timer functions so that you know how long you’ve been cleaning your teeth for and even a digital display that can remind you to change your brush head. Rechargeable toothbrushes can be purchased to provide rotating-oscillating technology and there are often a number of choices when it comes to choosing the brush head.

Electric Toothbrush Care and Maintenance

An electric toothbrush is an important cleaning tool to own and in order for it to provide you with good oral health, it is vital that you should take good care of it.

Every time you use your electric toothbrush, you should ensure that you leave it clean. Run the head under water for a couple of minutes to ensure that any lingering bacteria and plaque is washed away and make sure that any toothpaste is also cleaned off the toothbrush head.

If you are going to travel with your toothbrush, it is a good idea to store your toothbrush head in a travel holder. This will prevent the head from becoming dirty or broken. It should be noted however that a toothbrush holder should only be a temporary storage solution and you should not keep the head in the holder for prolonged lengths of time as this will allow bacteria to multiply and will leave your toothbrush head unhygienic.

You should ensure that you remember to change your toothbrush head frequently. This should be at around 3-months of use. The longer you use your toothbrush for without replacing the head, the more frayed the bristles will become. Frayed bristles mean that the toothbrush will not be as firm anymore and as a result, it will not be as effective at cleaning your teeth and gums.

Easier Brushing

The tooth cleaning routine with an automatic toothbrush doesn’t take much effort as the brush does most of the work. All is needed from you is to apply some toothpaste and after turning the brush on, move it all over the surface of the teeth. For proper brushing, you need to move it over the back and front teeth, including over the surfaces of molars.

Faster Brushing

The brush head of an electric toothbrush makes sweeping motions at a speed much higher than anyone can do with a manual brush. The speed of a hand cannot compare to the speed of a powered brush. As a result of rapid motions of toothbrush’s bristles, it sweeps away more plaque and effectively covers all the surfaces and crevices.

Proven Long-Term Results

There have been many studies of the effects of electric toothbrushes over the manual ones. They have shown that regular and continuous proper use of this powered tool makes significant positive changes in the overall oral health of the person. They have also proven that the users that were brushing with an electric brush got a bigger reduction of plaque and gingivitis than those who were using a manual brush.

Fresher Breath

Bad breath, also called halitosis, can be the result of the presence of bacteria and plaque in the person’s mouth. The advantage of an electric toothbrush is that it can cover all areas of the mouth, where the manual brush would not be able to reach and make such a thorough cleaning. So a powered brush provides a cleaner mouth and as a result, makes a fresher breath.

Electric Toothbrush Brands

Let’s take a look at two of the main toothbrush manufacturers to see what kind of quality you can expect when you are purchasing an electric toothbrush.

Oral-B is one of the best know toothbrush manufacturers around. There are all kinds of great toothbrush models to choose from so that you can purchase the electric toothbrush that has all the features that you need. Sonic and ultrasonic technologies are popular features at the moment and Oral-B has these kinds of toothbrushes available to buy. If you would prefer something a little cheaper, you could choose one of their rotating oscillating brushes. You can purchase cheaper electric toothbrushes from this manufacturer that are still high quality but that are in a lower price range. There are also some great electric toothbrushes that you can buy for kids.

Philips is another great brand when it comes to electric toothbrushes. With various Sonicare models, you can enjoy a cleaner mouth and better overall oral hygiene. Again, this is a manufacturer that has a great model of kid’s toothbrush so that you can help your little ones to maintain healthy teeth and gums from as soon as their teeth start to come through.

Brush Twice A Day

It’s one of the oldest methods of ensuring that your teeth stay clean and healthy for longer, but it really does work. Make sure that you clean your teeth twice a day – when you wake up in the morning, and after your evening meal.

Brushing in the morning will ensure that you have clean and fresh breath ready for the day ahead by removing any bacteria that will build up whilst you sleep.

By brushing after your evening meal, you’ll get rid of any food and debris that may be lodged between your teeth.

You should also floss daily, preferably at night, to help to loosen any debris that will be stuck between your teeth.

Take Extra Care

If you have any orthodontic fittings such as braces or bridges, you will need to pay extra attention to cleaning these. Make sure that you have a suitable brush or even a water flosser so that you will be able to clean your teeth properly.

You could use an electric toothbrush, or even a sonic toothbrush. These will allow you to clean your teeth more effectively and could even help you to achieve cleaner teeth.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Even if you clean your teeth regularly and do your best to look after them, you may not realize that the foods you eat could be causing damage.

You should choose healthy vegetables, nuts, fish, lean meats and dairy products. These will ensure that your gums and teeth stay healthy. The fats that are found in fish have even been shown to reduce the inflammation of the gums caused by gum disease.

Obviously, you should try to avoid sugary drinks, desserts, candy and processed foods, as these will cause tooth decay and damage to the enamel of your teeth.

Visit Your Dentist

There is no better way to stay on track with your oral health than to visit your dentist frequently. You should see your dentist twice a year for a professional hygiene clean.

Your dentist will be able to give you advice about cleaning your teeth and will let you know if there are any problems. As long as you see your dentist frequently, you will be able to find out about any small cavities that may develop and any other problems such as gum disease. The earlier that these problems can be treated by your dentist, the fewer problems they will cause you in future.

Battery Powered vs. Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush

When you are choosing between different types of toothbrushes, you’ll find that there are plenty of different options for you to choose from. When it comes to powered toothbrushes, two of the main kinds of toothbrushes that you can choose include battery powered or rechargeable toothbrushes. But which one will be best for your needs?

As their name suggests, battery powered toothbrushes require a battery to operate. Usually, they take or AA or AAA sized batteries. This gives you the freedom to use whatever brand of battery that you like and if you can purchase batteries in bulk, it may be a convenient way of powering the toothbrush.

Rechargeable AA or AAA batteries are not normally recommended as being suitable for battery operated toothbrushes. For this reason, you are usually limited to using disposable batteries and some people find that this is wasteful and even damaging to the environment.

Battery powered toothbrushes are generally very affordable, but they lack the power and features that you’d get from a rechargeable toothbrush. People who choose to buy a battery-powered toothbrush usually choose them as they are a little more affordable, convenient and they don’t need an electric outlet to be plugged into.

On the other hand, rechargeable toothbrushes are available in a range of price brackets. You can find very simple ones or more advanced brushes that even incorporate other features such as a water flosser.

Depending on the type of rechargeable toothbrush that you choose, it may have an oscillating feature, or could even feature sonic or ultrasonic technology. This would allow you to get the cleanest possible teeth with minimal effort.

If you purchase a rechargeable toothbrush, you should remember that you would need to plug it into an electrical outlet to charge it up. Even though it does need to be plugged in to charge, however, a rechargeable toothbrush can be used for up to weeks or more before it will need to be charged up again.

One of the main setbacks with using a rechargeable toothbrush is that you will need to use the charger base that comes with the toothbrush. If this stops working, you may have difficulties finding a replacement, which will mean that you won’t be able to charge the toothbrush. With a battery-operated brush, all you need to do is replace the batteries when the toothbrush stops working.

On the other hand, battery operated toothbrushes are not as powerful as rechargeable ones and you will be limited when it comes to the functionality of battery operated toothbrushes.

Waterpik Water Flosser and Sonic Toothbrush

Like anybody else I love a good bargain, and when I came across the WaterPik Complete Care package I was definitely impressed. This is a product that combines flossing and sonic toothbrush technology in one package. Separately, neither product may be the best on the market, but when you put them together you get something that’s quite unique.

The WaterPik flossing system uses hydraulic flow in order to spray jets of water between your teeth to remove the particles in between. This company is famous for these types of products and, as you might suspect, this part of the package they did quite well. For a better clean they recommend using mouthwash mixed in with your water.

What did surprise me was the reliable quality of the sonic toothbrush that comes with this device. Any time a company steps outside its comfort zone you’re bound to wonder if they can make it work, but WaterPik has done a pretty good job in this sense. This is definitely a good-quality sonic toothbrush that uses the vibrations of its brush to remove almost 100% more plaque from your teeth than a regular toothbrush.

Sterline Electric Sonic Pulse Toothbrush

The Sterline Sonic Pulse makes this list for one main reason other than its tooth-brushing capabilities – it includes UV cleaning technology, which I thought was a great addition. When you’re not using your brush you put it inside the specially designed UV storage case which bombards the brush with UV light, killing 99% of the bacteria on your brush head. It’s a great feature and a good reason to consider this brush.
